What is Clean Sweep?

Clean Sweep is a limited time collection of unwanted, unused or damaged agricultural or household hazardous wastes.  This program collects, treats, stores, or disposes of waste in an environmentally safe method through a licensed hazardous waste facility.  Hazardous wastes can usually be identified by product labels which contain any of the following words: CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER, POISON, TOXIC, IGNITABLE, OR FLAMMABLEACID, CORROSIVE, OR REACTIVE.

Who Can Participate?

- Only residents of Dodge County are eligible to participate.

- Farms and Businesses need to pre-register.  (more details on this web page)

- Household clean sweep items can be taken to any location at the times given.

- Pharmaceuticals can be discarded at the Beaver Dam site.  (more details on this web page)

- Computers can be discarded for a $10 fee at the Beaver Dam location.  (more details on this web page)

   

Clean Sweep Guidelines

- Each farm or household may bring any amount of hazardous waste for free disposal.

- Materials should be properly identified with their original labels.

- Do not mix materials together.  Doing so can be extremely dangerous!

- Pack materials for your safety.  Place materials in a cardboard box lined with a plastic bag.  Separate each product with a folded newspaper.

- If a container is leaking, put it in a secondary leak-proof container.

- Pack containers in the trunk of your vehicle, away from the driver, passengers and pets.

- Unknown materials can be brought in, but Dodge County and its hazardous waste disposal contractor reserve the right to refuse any material.

 

Materials that will NOT be accepted

The following materials will NOT be accepted due to restrictions imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Hazardous Waste Disposal Company, or the Dodge County Clean Sweep Steering Committee:

- Explosives (ammunition, fireworks, etc.)

- Human Medical and Biological Wastes including infectious wastes

- Radioactive Materials (smoke detectors)

- Compressed gas cylinders

- Shock or heat sensitive materials such as ether, peroxide or picric acid

- Used motor oil

- Fertilizer

- Tires

- Asbestos

- Anti-Freeze

- Alkaline Batteries (throw alkaline batteries in your trash)

- Latex paints (non-lead based)  NOTE:  Air dry liquid latex paint in the can by removing the lid.  To speed up this process, you can mix sand, cement, plaster of paris or kitty litter with the paint.  Once dried you can dispose of your dried paint/can with your garbage.

Pharmaceutical Collection

Only at the Beaver Dam location on Saturday, September 18, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon.

Accepted items:  Inhalers, Liquids, Pills, Over the Counter items, Pet Meds, Creams

Note:  keep medications in their original containers.  You may cross out your name, but keep the prescription name and dosage on the container.  Sharps and needles for human use are not accepted.

 

Computer Collection Program

Only at the Beaver Dam location on Saturday, September 18, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon.

Dispose of your outdated and unused computer equipment at Clean Sweep.  Printers and CPUs can be discarded at no charge.  A $10.00 fee will be collected for the disposal of each monitor.  Note:  NO TV's

 

Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) Program

A VSQG is a small business that generates less than 2,205 lbs. of legally defined hazardous waste.  These small businesses can take advantage of the lower collection and disposal rates negotiated by the State of Wisconsin for Household and Agricultural Hazardous Waste Collection Programs.  Agricultural small businesses are also eligible to receive a 50% cost share from state pesticide funds, lowering the cost even more.

To participate, businesses must contact the UW-Extension Office, (920) 386-3790, at least two weeks in advance.  Businesses will then be put in contact with the waste disposal company to develop a collection and disposal contract.

 

Pre-registration is required for Ag and Small Business Collection

- Register by calling Dodge County UW-Extension Office at (920) 386-3790 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

- Only phone reservations will be accepted.  Register before Wednesday, September 1 for VSQG and Monday, September 6 for Ag.

- Be prepared to estimate the amount of material you will be bringing.  (pounds of dry material and gallons of liquids)
